Dorina Pllumbi and Alba Caja

TEDxTirana 2016 Speaker

Dorina Pllumbi and Alba Caja are part of TEDxTirana and the curators of the urban intervention series ‘Framing the Commons’. These interventions were an invitation to reconsider the relationship with the city, to create a new language of urban communication in space, and to use space in unconventional ways. These playful and amusing activities sparked the desire of living the city differently, increasing the sense of belonging by involving people in the processes of city transformation. Dorina is an architect and a researcher at Sapienza University of Rome and Technological University of Delft, with particular interest in 'Processes of Co-Production of Open Space' and the role of the architect in them. In her research, the openness aspect is, firstly, related to the collectiveness of these processes, to mechanisms to accept and integrate multiple voices; and, secondly, to the incompleteness in design and the left open for interpretation by the users in time. Alba is concluding her studies in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Polytechnic University of Tirana. Besides other experiences, she is the creative voice within TEDxTirana, having designed the stage from the outset. Alba’s work is characterized by a creative and improvisational spirit. She uses simple materials to translate concepts in physical compositions with a simplistic sense of esthetics.
